Droopys Missouri might have been the first, but he certainly won’t be the last winner of the Brinkley Estate Future Champion Unraced Trophy.

The Paul Young trained Missouri (Blackstone Gene-Droopys Laramie, Aug 14) turned over hot favourite Blissful Scolari to land the inaugural event in 29.75 (N) for the track’s 515m and collected a £5,000 winner’s prize in the process.

The event was a huge success with several of the contestants looking set for future high class careers. Now the event could be set to be a permanent back-up to the Regency.

Tony Taylor, who handles most of sponsor Robert Brinkley’s greyhounds said: “Robert has been delighted with this first event and he has already committed to sponsoring it again next year. With a bit more notice, it would be great to see a few Irish novices put aside for such a high profile competition.
