Lots of decent youngsters on show in Ireland in the past week. Enniscorthy’s unraced stake in memory of Michael Fortune produced several worthy performances with Jaytee Wexford the pick of the bunch. The ‘Ballymac’ bred Bombardier was quickest at Limerick.
At Clonmel on Friday none more impressive than Rachel Wheeler’s 17 month old debutant Moanteen Mikey. At the other end of the age scale, veteran open racer Whiterock Dan was easily the quickest on the clock at Dundalk.
Shelbourne is currently between major events but still plenty of worthy performances notably a 41.43 750 run for Droopys Wyatt, a time only bettered by Ballymac Wisdom this year and on going rated .20 slow, a very decent 31.01 (575) from Auxerre.
Kilkenny staged two semi finals of a sprint for coursing bred hounds and they went to two litter brother with Bingo Mick the quickest.
Returning to the subject of ‘Ballymacs’ the performance of the week though probably goes to Cork 550 winner Ballydoyle Rossa, who is a litter sister to Ballymac Cashout with 28.23 Tralee winner Seomra Nate also in the shake-up. (Only Javiers Boy went quicker last year with a 28.20 run).
