Roxholme Dolly produced Towcester’s outstanding trial performance on a satisfying first session for new arrival Hayley Keightley.

While it is still early to gauge times over the track’s new 270 metre course, you can be fairly sure that 15.79 will represent an open class sprint for a bitch who would probably benefit for an additional 300+ metres. Dolly beat kennelmate Roxholme Butt by three lengths in the fastest time of the day.

But the 15.87 from Hiya Boyo – beaten in his only UK appearance – would have been a more than satisfactory first look, as would the 15.92 from Roxholme Blueboy. Littermates Lughil Blitz and Roxholme Socks also impressed.

Mark Wallis was also getting some work into the legs of some of his open race stars, though the vast majority would have wanted a minimum of two more bends before they could be expected to shine.

Two of the best suited to the sprint, Silva Hill and Antigua Breeze clocked identical times of 16.08, with Tiffield Blueboy only marginally slower. The star of the kennel though was probably stayer Alien Sea with a 15.90 run. Meanwhile two of Mark’s Cat 1 winners Bumblee Bullet and Antigua Fire would have both benefited from two bend pipe openers clocking 16.14 and 16.38 respectively.

Credit too to the ‘one dog will travel’ preparation of Sharon Thompson as Sparta Master was among the select group to break 16.00.
