If the forthcoming GBGB Annual Awards night at Sheffield is as successful as the recent Boxing Day meeting, it should be some night.

Racing Manager Andrew Mascarenhas said: “There were just under 1,900 through the gate and the bar was heaving by 11am. We had our biggest bar take and tote returns since 2017, which is as long as our records go back.”

The awards evening is set for Sunday February 12 and will be held on site at the on-site OEC Sheffield and the Owlerton management are hoping that attendees will consider making a weekend of it.

Andrew said: “There is a special offer for 50% off hospitality for people attending the awards and I have arranged for some invitation races for the Saturday (Feb 11).” Offers

The three £500 invitations will include a puppy event and locals can expect to see some talented youngsters in the next few weeks as potential entries for the Steel City Puppy Derby learn their way around Owlerton.

Although the £15K event doesn’t get underway until April 1, there are regular puppy events among the Tuesday night opens which resumed this week.

Andrew said: “We are waiting to see what turns up but obviously since it is open for May pups or younger, there will only be a limited amount of form out there. We are certainly expecting to be some good youngsters at our sale next Wednesday.” Catalogue
