Glenpadden Ace, Barnside Chloe, Geelo Sapphire – there have been some very fast stayers wins over SHEFFIELD’s 660 metre course this year – but none has gone faster than Swift Burn (Sh Avatar-Swift Palmer, Jan 15) on Tuesday night.

The Russ Warren trained dual distance brindle went to trap two at even money and decimated her field beating Mexican Peso nearly seven lengths in a ‘fastest of year’ 38.73 – and that’s BEFORE the -30 going allowance is taken into account. The 38.43 run looks pretty good against Billys Bullet’s 38.29 track record which was recorded on +40 going.

Earlier on the same card, Russanda Ripley (Candlelight King-Droopys Knox) became the first ‘Dec 15’ whelp to win an open race when covering the 500m in 29.37 (-20).

Between the two, the precision timepiece known as Worsboro Spectre (Ace Hi Rumble-Worsboro Jewel, Oct 13) gave John Sharp his fourth win in his last five outings. The winner’s time was 16.08 (-10).
