Irish trainer Pat Buckley, who won the Scottish Derby six years ago with Cabra Cool, fired a warning shot across the bows of the home-based trainers at Shawfield on Friday when he put his two probables for this year’s RPGTV-sponsored prize through their paces.

Last year’s winner of the Irish St Leger at Limerick Paradise Silva produced the fastest clock of the session as he went round the 480 metres in an excellent 29.13, while Lenson Sanchez stopped the clock at 29.44.

Pat Flaherty’s Greenwell Lark looked good with a 29.29and kennelmate Greenwell Ace was timed at 29.36, while there were good efforts from last Steve Atkinson’s Northern Puppy Derby winner Kneejerkreaction, who trialled in 29.32, and Jimmy Wright’s Blackjack Django (29.33) and Sandyhill Hitman (29.34) also showed up well.
