Time for Rolex to break the Crayford curse?

Dazl Rolex will be attempting to break the a long standing Crayford hoodoo with an attempt on the Ladbrokes Kent St.Leger which gets underway on Sunday.

No greyhound has ever won the elusive Crayford eight bend double Jacket/Kent St. Leger though many have tried over the years. Only one trainer has come closer than Mark Wallis who had beaten Jacket favourites Antigua Fire and Bo Shine Bullet both then go on to win the Leger.

For Jimmy Fenwick, the situation was reversed having seen Bellmore Sally win the 2022 and 2023 Golden Jackets only to finish runner-up to 10/1 winner Riing Coco the first year followed by a half length defeat to Low Pressure twelve months ago.

Trainer Ricky Holloway has confirmed that the 2024 Jacket winner Rolex, who produced two recent flying trials of 23.19 and 23.00 for the 380 metres, will take part along with litter sister Razldazl Amanda.

Standing in their way is the formidable MWD team which will include Ballymac Taylor and Coonough Crow, third and fourth in this year’s decider and Minnie Bullet who was fourth in 2023 with Crow, sixth.

Entries close tomorrow but with only six entries in the book so far, of the required 36, the racing office are already considering the option of once again cutting the first round back to 24.

Beyonce has a date

Dam of the Year Queen Beyonce is in season and is due in Ireland on Tuesday to be covered by former kennelmate and four-time Catgegory One winner, Fromposttopillar.

Handler Rab McNair said: “It has always been our plan to cover her with Postie. He was an outstanding greyhound and his bloodlines should go well with Beyonce. Postie’s dam is by Tullymurry Act, a cross that worked so well with our dam line, notably through King Elvis and his sisters.

“We always thought Fromposttopillar was an exceptionally fast greyhound who we fancied to make it at stud. If we aren’t prepared to use him, how can we expect other people to do the same?”

This will be a third litter for the Derby semi finalist. The first, by Fromposttopillar’s sire Droopys Sydney includes Kings Memphis, Capaldi, Combs and Sydney plus Queens Shakira. The second litter, now a year old are by Magical Bale.

Rab said: “They are a big litter, one of the dogs is around the 40 kilo mark so I will be taking my time with them. But I put them on the drag and they were exceptional.”
