Pat Rosney had a 1-2 in the final of the Betfred Puppy Maiden Final over 500 metres at Nottingham on Monday writes Jason Craddock.

His Newyork City Boy was the 5-4 favourite and his supporters were rubbing their hands when he went into a clear lead. However kennelmate Peerless Trio (4-1) reeled him in on the third turn and went on to score by a length and a half in 28.69sec.

Rosney said afterwards: “Both ran well and we plan on running the winner in the Puppy Oaks at Nottingham next week and the second in the Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle soon.”

Pat Cowdrill’s veteran flew out of the boxes and held off the late challenge of Droopys Genoa by a head in 28.60sec.

Cowdrill said afterwards: “He seems to be getting better with age. We’re now thinking of running him in the Henlow Derby, as the 460 metre trip is ideal.”

Klockwork Khaos went quickest in the Caffreys Sprint Trophy over 305 metres.

Paul Sallis’s runner was soon clear on the outside and went on to beat veteran Lemon Pluto by almost two lengths in 17.73sec.

David Pruhs’ Haydeezhero led from the opening turn in heat two to register a two length victory over Dians Shadow in 17.84sec.

Corley Ace was an impressive winner in the heats of the Coors Lite British Bred Trophy over 500 metres.

Ken Humphreys’ runner was soon clear and went on to hold the favourite Honest John by three lengths in 29.75sec.

Dave Firmager’s Fabulous Zita caught long-time leader Battle Captain on the last turn in heat two and went on to score by just over a length in 29.93sec.

Steve Race’s La Maquina went quickest in trials over 305 metres before racing clocking 17.71sec.
