When Let Me Tell You won his semi final of the British Breeders Stakes, his Jonathon Miles was so upset that King Sheeran had broken a hock in the same race that he wanted Sheeran’s connections to have the prize money.

As fate had it, the journeyman brindle then went on unbeaten to land the £7,500 stake on Monday night. Contesting the 87th race of a productive career, ‘Louis’ led from trap to line and just held off the determined Carn Brea by a neck in 29.96 (+20) for the 500m.

Trainer Angie Kibble said: “A gesture like that would have been just typical of Jonathon. He felt so guilty about winning and concern for Rab McNair’s pup that he didn’t want to take the prize. I am so pleased for him that Louis did him proud.”

By Kinloch Brae out out Craig Dawson’s former A1 Newcastle runner Coolavanny Cushy, Let Me Tell You joined Mrs Kibble at around 10 months old and was schooled by her before joining the Hall Green graded strength in A5.

She said: “In the early days he was prone to just sitting in the traps, but he gradually improved. There isn’t much of him (30kg) and he is much better when he leads. Fortunately he hasn’t had any serious injuries and has been a good dog for Jonathon. I don’t know what we will do next, that is down to Jonathan. Last night he did mention the British Bred Derby at Sheffield.”

On the subject of injuries, the kennel’s bright young star Ballymac Defo is recovering following a recent operation for a chipped bone in the wrist. He beat Droopys Trawler in a heat of the Puppy Classic but was withdrawn from the semi finals. It is hoped he may return to the track in 2019.

The winning trainer didn’t get to the track on Monday, she was tending a young litter of Dorotas Wildcat pups.

Angie said: “I like to stay out of the limelight and prefer to be with the pups. Apart from the young ones, there is also another litter who were born on Christmas Eve and are by Droopys Jet out of the Golden Jacket winner Wiki Waki Woo. They are her second litter.

“We had a few problems with the first litter, by Scolari Me Daddy because the dam didn’t produce any milk and they had to be bottle reared. Three have made the track. They are only March ’17s and I am hopeful that the two bitches will stay on a bit like their mum.”
