Head Iton Boris is making giant strides for Kelly Macari’s kennel at Sunderland. The August 2013 son of Droopys Scolari and Head Iton Shanri was giving up to 12 metres away on debut but won in 27.83. His next appearance was in A2 resulted in a  four length win in 27.35 and he completed the hat-trick on Friday when he managed to hold the flying finish of Redwood Rooster by a neck in 27.37.

 

The approach of the BresMed Northern Sprint is attracting a lot of two-bend stars to Sheffield next week as they get ready for the start of the Category Two competition on July 21. There are three open races over the 280-metre trip on Tuesday and Liz McNair is sending the prolific winners Wee Tiger Tots and Skate On, who will be taking on two of the top home-trained flyers in United Leeds and Geelo Vegas, north on a recce.

 

Maum Legend, who has been on the sidelines since March, continues to make progress on the comeback trail for Newcastle trainer Jimmy Wright. The runner-up in last year’s Eclipse and third the All England Cup highlighted the fact that he was on the way back to top form when he followed up last week’s 17.24 trial for Newcastle’s 290 metres with a 17.03 run on another solo on Friday.

 

Coolavanny Rebel, winner of the Summer Festival Puppies 480 at Monmore a couple of weeks ago, clocked a 27.80 in a solo spin at Sheffield on Thursday as trainer Elaine Parker maps out his future. She says: “He is a July 2013 dog, so he has lost his puppy status and we have to start looking for suitable all-aged races. I have entered him for one of Tuesday night’s opens at Sheffield and take it from there with him.”
