It’s going to be a bleak day (or week) for Tony Collett and Patrick Janssens. If it wasn’t enough that they couldn’t pick a winner between them on Sunday, they will now have to endure the derision of Robert McNair pretty much until he gets board with it and finds another victim. The world’s gobbiest kennelboy went for £60 win on Queen Jessiej and £20 on the stunning King Drake (11-4) for a profit of £56.82.

NOTTINGHAM

After a brilliant debut for local enthusiast and form student Terry Urquhart, we welcome another new face in Eddie Maguire whose profile reads “Professional gambler and private odds compiler”

Connections of ex Newcastle dog Sophies Spark (R9 T5) must have been both delighted and frustrated in equal measure on last week’s Nottingham debut as although the run was full of promise. It stood out like a sore thumb and he is sure to attract the attention of just about every knowledgeable punter in the land this evening.
Five times a handicap winner from 31 career starts at the North East venue, that’s obviously a side of the racing that he enjoys and another major punt in that sphere will no doubt come down the line. He can land the first level start victory of his career this evening though as quite simply he possesses pace far in advance of any of his rivals tonight and warrants maximum support.  Spark couldn’t have trapped any worse last week , he left so much time in the boxes it was untrue , he then showed good pace to the bend , careful around the first bend he run the second bend extremely well to smoothly put himself into second position and set his sights upon runaway leader Salacres Django who was setting the pace some five lengths ahead.
It has to be said that Django isn’t the strongest of runners at this stage of his career although he is strengthening up with each passing week , the pace that Sophies showed in behind though to narrowly fail to get there , eventually beaten just a short head in a photo finish showed this dog up as a sure fire future winner at this level.  Despite a small amount of support for the dog on the early markets he was a significant late drifter on the exchanges , suggesting that though he was doing his best on track debut there was still plenty left in the tank to work on.  He is sure to be aided in this race by the racing style of a dog from my own kennel Salacres Turbo.  Like a few of our pups at this stage he is making life difficult for himself by starting slowly , showing good middle but finding the trip tough at this stage.  They are strengthening up with each run but I wouldn’t imagine he was up to the level of a dog like Spark at this stage , especially since Turbo will turn left on the run up and it will open up like the red sea for the selection given that the rival on his outside Fredsters Court has so far at least been extremely tardy at the traps and will keep wide in any case.  Fredsters has been showing good middle pace but it’s difficult to see him back running Spark should the selection as I fancy be in front by the second turn.  He’s likely to be nothing like his forecast price of 7/2 come the off so the advice would be to take the early prices as quickly as possible before the value dries up £100 win
Terry Urquhart
Lilywhite Sarah (R5 T1) A bitch I’ve followed closely during her time at Nottingham.  Last came in season on the 16th March 2019 but is returning to form in the style of a bitch who in my opinion has been through a ‘ghost season’.  Landed a gamble when heavily bet on the early markets throughout the day last time out and completing a quickfire double in the process.  I’ve seen bitches over the years who have been through apparent ‘ghost seasons’ before and the improvement they show can follow a very similar pattern to a bitch who has actually been in season.  The improvement of Sarah if I’m correct in my assessment might not be over just yet £20 win.
Sophies Spark (R9 T5)  It’s been a long long time since a dog caught my eye on Nottingham debut in the manner that Sophie Spark did last week.  He looked to be a top grade dog in the making here at Nottingham and though this is a reasonable A4 he should get tons of room early on before taking off like a scalded cat down the back.  Good bet£80 win
Eddie Maguire
Leos Adora (R2 T1) This bitch is never usually far away in her races but in her first few comeback events she wasn’t running like her usual self.  Her last two runs have been much more like it though , showing all of her old enthusiasm and at this level of A4 she’s still capable of nicking the odd race.  Not one for the faint of heart as not likely to be much in this at the finish but should be a bit of value£20 win.
Sophies Spark (R9 T5) Used to watch this dog when he was running at Newcastle and the likes of there and Notts play to his strengths.  A strong galloper with frightening pace down the back , looks very well in here and shouldn’t be hanging around against such modest opposition for very long.  Will be having one of my biggest bets of the year so far£80 win.

YARMOUTH

Liam Aspin says: “Tonight sees a new debutant to the tipping challenge with Brett Hughes joint the Yarmouth team. Brett has been an owner of Irene Barnard’s for the last 15 years so he’s plenty of experience at the track. The other is a sky high Lee Calcutt, who may watch his selections run tonight, or he may still be watching Smallmeads performance from Saturday night! “

Liam Aspin:

Tightly graded card tonight sees just one selection for me and that goes to Pawsome Dakota (R10, T2) for David Carter. She’s a bitch that needs everything to go her own way and tonight I think that could happen. She tends to miss the break one week and hit the lids the next and last time out was her time to miss it, so I’m hoping that is out of the way and she can trap well tonight. Slow starters in 1 and 3 make the way for a clean race and if turning in front, surely she can’t be picked up. £100 win
Brett Hughes
Brett Hughes has 2 selections for tonight both trained by Derek Brighton. The first is Hour Glasscurtis (R5 T4). Brett said:“I found it quite a tricky card tonight but have managed to come up with two selections. Hour Glasscurtis can win the first six bend affair since racing at Yarmouth resumed. He’s a dog crying out for further after always finishing like a train over four bends. He last ran and won over 659m in January and can do so again at the main expense of Good Karma who rates the danger.” £60 win
For his second selection he’s turned to the only D2 sprint on the card where Bumblebee Adam (R8 T1) is the pick. Brett said, “He looks to have a fantastic draw and although the red is seen as a disadvantage from the sprint boxes it can work in his favour. I don’t see anything coming over to the rail if he was to half miss it, so off a level break he can pace up to the corner, rail tightly and go on to score his first victory in the country.” £40 win
Lee Calcutt
Lee has gone with the first Peterborough runner on the card in Millroad Glory (R2 T3) for Sharon Saberton. Lee said: “With trainers moving from Peterborough to Yarmouth I found this runner of Sharon Saberton’s well in on its trial times. With her burst of early pace and the fact she picked up the now grey-beard but ex-A1 runner Bar The Warrior in her last trial, I believe she can make all.” £40 win
The final selection for Lee Calcutt is the likely highly supported Good Karma for Lauren Sawyer (R5 T6). Lee said, “A rare S1 at Yarmouth but Lauren Sawyer’s charge bred by Ballydoyle Honey, with a 40.74 on its card over C&D and running against best stayers in country shouldn’t have to find much to win this, albeit could be at a short price.” £60 win
