Colin Handford’s Easy On , a finalist in the 2019 Angel Of The North ran out a comfortable winner of the evening’s first Derby trial stakes.  With crowding up the middle of the track on the run up Easy On led at the first and never looked in danger scoring by 2 1/2 lengths from Samantha Atkinson’s Shady Diesel in 3006.

The second trial stakes of the evening went to Pat Rosney’s recent All England Cup winner Bower Luke.  Flashing from the traps and posting a quick 4.97 split he looked away and gone. Main danger Plaza Lep however made a race of it and put Luke under pressure along the back straight.  Luke run the third bend well though , taking strong command he put 4 lengths between himself and Lep on the run for home to stop the clock in 29.79.

Glenvale Gav has been performing extremely well in some high class A1 events at home track Kinsley recently and was already proven here at Nottingham having won a puppy open here in January.  He didn’t go unsupported in the market by some shrewd local judges as he pinged out and never looked in any danger when landing the third trial stakes of the evening in by 1 3/4 lengths in 29.84 from Ken Humphreys Master Reed.
Mister Brentford had left time on the track when recording 2990 in a trial here last week and despite a brief moment of worry at the second bend when bumping with Anna Thompson’s Drumcrow Linnet he showed excellent back straight pace to just about gain the upper hand in a tough battle to hold off Linnet by a short head in 29.86.
Syndicate leader and kennel hand Mark Burridge declared himself pleased with the effort saying “That was a great run from the lad , we’re keen to get some good experience into him ahead of the Derby starting in October and that was a great start for us”.
Anna Thompson will also be pleased with the effort of Linnet who was returning to Nottingham after a couple of visits to Newcastle where she reached the final of the RPGTV Puppy Cup.
The Blue Tick syndicate owned, Jim Daly trained Blue Tick George posted a fastest of session 29.84 over the 500m Derby course.
Trainer Daly said “I’m pleased with that effort from George , any dog breaking 30 seconds on their first four bend run at this track has gone well , there’s plenty to come from him”.
Whilst leading player in the Blue Tick syndicate Dave Mitchell declared himself equally happy with the run “I couldn’t be more pleased with that effort , it’s all systems go towards the Derby now where hopefully he’ll give myself and my fellow owners a good run for our money in the event”.
Joanne O’Neill’s Borna Shelly is a very interesting type.  Though a November 2017 whelp he has just the five career races under his belt. Four of those came in Ireland where he gained the first victory of his career when coming from behind at Clonmel to win pulling away in 28.85. His sole UK start producing a highly creditable third place finish at Newcastle behind Levante Beach and Look Like Power.  Tipping the scales at almost 39 kilo he’s obviously a dog who should be well suited by the galloping nature of the Colwick Park circuit and looks the type who will improve for racing.  On what was his first look around the Derby venue he posted a more than pleasing , second fastest of the session 29.92.
