Coolavanny Gooch justified 5-4 favouritism in the final of the Masters over 460 metres at Henlow writes Jason Craddock.

John Gardner’s runner flew out of the boxes and saw off the early challenge of Eric Cantillon’s Sand Brier before going on to score by almost three lengths in 27.57sec.

The son of Coolavanny Bert has been entered for the William Hill Greyhound Derby which starts at Wimbledon next week.

Blackrose Payet went quickest in the heats of the Henlow Bookmakers Sprint over 277 metres.

Eric Cantillon’s runner passed Simon Cull’s Ripple at halfway and went on to score by three and a half lengths in 16.67sec.

Cull had better luck in the second heat with 6-1 chance Kildare Hi, who was soon clear to beat odds on favourite Geelo Bolt by three lengths in 16.69sec.

Pam Dolby’s Mays Teejay was soon clear in heat three to score a three and a four and a half length victory over Savana Eddie in 16.70sec.
