In a move that will surprise many, GBGB have acted swiftly to respond to growing media concerns over the seeding of greyhound in open races writes editor Floyd Amphlett.

A statement reads:

Following several instances where the seeding of a greyhound in an open race has been called into question, GBGB will be conducting an internal review into how greyhound seeds are determined.

Commenting on the announcement, Paul Illingworth, GBGB Senior Stipendiary Steward, said:

“Following conversations with the GBGB Owners and Trainers’ representatives and RCPA members, it has been agreed that we will conduct an internal review into the seeding process and trap draws. While the Rules regarding seeding are well established, this does not mean that these should not be reviewed and improved if deemed necessary and in the best interests of greyhound welfare and the reputation of the sport.

“Ahead of this review, GBGB has written to all tracks to remind them of the key aspects involved in the seeding of greyhounds and we will feedback the outcomes of the review once it has concluded.”

This is indeed welcome news that will hopefully be received in the correct manner by owners and trainers.
