Farloe Blitz will attempt to go unbeaten through the William Hill Greyhound Derby after victory in Saturday’s semi-finals over 480 metres at Wimbledon writes Jason Craddock.

Owen McKenna’s runner flew out of the boxes and was soon clear of Geelo Vegas. Dan Riodan’s Rio Quattro, who started moderately, went second from turn two but could never get near the leader who scored by a length and a half in 28.24sec, the fastest of the session.

Track record holder Eden The Kid, who moved into the third qualifying spot at halfway, was a further neck away in third.

Making Paper was a shock 12-1 winner of the second semi-final.

Diane Henry’s son of Hondo Black made a rare fast start and was soon clear of Tynwald Bish.

Peter Cronin’s runner challenged the leader down the far side but the leader kicked on again from the third turn and went on to score by just over three lengths in 28.33sec.

Tynwald Bish started to tread water down the home straight and passed in the last strides by Millwards Davy, who edged him by a short head but both safely qualified for the final.

Pat Buckley’s Paradise Maverik and Lenson Sanchez never got competitive and were a head and half a length further back.

Final draw:

1 Rio Quattro 4

2 Farloe Blitz 4-5

3 Making Paper (m) 8
