Doncaster have not given up on the BAGS/SIS Track Championship and are sending 18 runners to Belle Vue for trials next week.

Racing manager Mick Smith said: “We are in last place and need a miracle but we are not so far behind the fourth placed team and we have our home leg, with double runners, still to come.

“The competition probably came a bit soon for us but we have got progressively stronger. Holycrosskingman has been our top points scorer with dear old Swift Perth proving a great points scorer.”

On the subject of veterans, Lutton Sporty continues to turn out with distinction for Malcolm Windrass. The son of Sportsman will be eight years old in April.

Smith said: “Malcolm has several getting on in years but I think he feeds them better than he feeds himself. Sporty ran third at the weekend but he won back in July and is still capable on his night.”
