The Betfred Steel City Cup continued to produce the shocks on Tuesday night as the kennel of Kath Harris claimed the honours writes John Forbes.

The first semi-final of the Category One competition saw a fabulous finish. Despite a sluggish start, the odds-on Minglers Thunder led from the initial turn, but Harris’s Some Turbo weaved his way through the field to deliver a decisive finish that claimed the victory by a short head in 28.70 for the 500 metres, with the other runner from the Harris team, Crewe Baby Ace, claiming third and a place in next week’s £7,500-to-the-winner final.

Satin Mark and Conna Trigger were involved in an early battle in the second semi-final, but Kelly Macari’s racer dropped away in the closing stages and appeared to be injured, which left the race at the mercy of the leader, who comfortably held the favourite Ballymac Mossjoe by two and a quarter lengths in 28.75, with Kakantu holding onto third place by a head.

The trap draw for next Wednesday’s final is – 1 Minglers Thunder; 2 Satin Mark, 3 Some Turbo, 4 Ballymac Mossjoe; 5 Crewe Bay Ace; 6 Kankantu (w).
