Stealing an early lead after a rapid exit from the unfavoured Trap 4 was the key to victory in the £5,000 Tennent’s Gold Cup Open 525 Final for Willie Hyslop’s Toolmaker Scot at Drumbo Park on Saturday night writes Michael Watts.

While a first bend collision probably put an end to the chances of his main rival 5/2 shot Farloe Rumble, the even money favourite led from trap to line to record a 16:11 sectional and land the £10K first prize in 28.17 for his Ayrshire-based owner and Rathangan Co.Kildare trainer Robert Gleeson.

A semi-finalist in the Irish Derby a few short weeks ago, Farloe Rumble in the red jacket recovered sufficiently to finish second five lengths off the winner, followed home by the winner’s kennelmate 7/1 outsider Toolmaker Metro (Trap 5) a further four lengths back in third.
