2014 GBGB have changed the rules on empty traps in open races. Until now, they have allowed the track to determine which box should be empty. Going forward, the empty trap will relate to a middle seed.

2014 Greyhound of the Year Farloe Tango is retired after sustaining a cut foot in the heats of the Doncaster St.Leger. The highlight of his career was the track record breaking run in the St.Leger at Wimbledon. He also won Ballyregan Bob and Lol Jones Memorial races and held the 680m record at Coventry. He was though a ‘character’ who once stopped chasing in a solo trial at Nottingham. Also retired a few days later is Scottish Derby winner Holdem Spy. The Carol Weatherall trained black had 25 wins in 40 races and missed out on a place in the 2013 Derby Final by a short head.

2007 Hills PR David Hood announces a £2,000 increase in the winner’s prize to £10,000 for the All England Cup with the runners-up prize doubling to £2,000. All supporting opens on the final card will be worth a minimum of £750.

1957 Greyhound racing is buzzing over the purchaser of the sensational pup Priairie Champion. The 19 month old brindle had trialled around Harolds Cross in 29.10, the three year old track record is 29.44. Champion, is eventually bought from owner TP Murphy of Inistiogue (Kilkenny) for £2,500 – equivalent today of £63,000. The new owner is London club owner Alf Burnett, who renames the youngster after that club – Pigalle Wonder.

2014 Coolavanny Jumbo puts himself in line to become the first hurdler ever to take the Greyhound of the Year title. Mark Wallis’ runner became the fourth hound to land the Springbok/Grand National in the same year, but had also won the Champion Hurdle.
