Five of the six principles, including both favourites, came through their respective semi finals of the Sheffield Stadium Puppy Trophy.

First to go was Puppy Derby finalist Ballymac Ramsey (Droopys Scolari-Ballymac Razl, Jul 14) who ran a superb race for a sixth win in ten races. Led up by the second and third favourites, Candlelight Fire and Coolavanny Murph, Barrie Draper’s 11-2 chance ran between them at the third bend and pulled away to win by three lengths and half a length in 28.95.

The second qualifier saw Cloran Paddy (Westmead Hawk-Martinstown Rose, Mar 14) go to traps as a 4-9f chance to extend his unblemished record to three.

But Charlie Lister’s coloured pup was made to work for his win by 10-1 chance Our Bosco who marginally led up and seized the rail. The favourite tried an ‘undertake’ between bends one and two and was forced to check before delivering his challenge on the outside at the third bend. He eventually pulled away to win by nearly six lengths from Our Bosco with second favourite Candlelight Dream (9-2) taking third. The winner’s time – 28.76.
