Remember Boxing Day 2015? David Cameron was British Prime Minister. Jose Mourinho had just been sacked as Chelsea manager. It was also the day that Parkers Prince made his debut for Mark Wallis at Towcester.

Angie McDermott with Parkers Prince

On Sunday, the same Parkers Prince romped home by six lengths in A6 company for Pelaw owner trainer Davy Robinson and daughter Angie McDermott.

For those who subscribe to the theory that ‘there are only so many races in them’, Davy and Angie have done their best to extend Prince’s racing career; Sunday’s A6 win was his first in 16 months. Though he has only raced 17 times since April 2019!

But the key to Prince’s longevity might not just be his tender loving care and part time racing career, but breeding too. The son of Kinloch Brae and Swift Venom was whelped at Ian Greaves’ Monasterevin kennel back in July 2014.

By Greaves standards the litter was ‘okay’; The fastest would turn out to be Pat Rosney’s minor open winner Vatican Punch. But ten of the 11 pups in the litter made it to the track and the littermates now have a combined 1,007 races between them. That’s right, they have averaged over 100 races each.

Unsurprisingly Prince is the last member of the litter on active service; Sunday was his 110th race.

Angie McDermott said: “He was A2 at his peak but always an inconsistent trapper. He was downgraded on Sunday and I don’t think anybody really fancied him but he did everything just right.

“We only run him once a month because of his age but he still loves his racing. We just take it one race at a time. When the time comes he will be a house pet with dad’s other two dogs.”
