02 RED MILLSWe are really looking forward to next Tuesday’s card at Newcastle. We have Newinn Blitz in the final of the Deluxe Flooring puppy competition and I think he must have a reasonable chance.

He is only a September pup and I am still learning about him but I was delighted with his heat win in 28.78. The other two heats were won in 28.75 and 29.37.

Blitz lead up from trap one in a 4.67 sectional and I think he will need to do something similar in the final to have any chance. Him and the runner-up, Ballingarry Perl have reversed traps from their heats but I don’t see that as too much of an inconvenience. In fact, before the heats I have always considered trap one to beat a slow breaking trap at Newcastle.

I hope to have at least three runners on the night. Azzurri Dino will be entered in the sprint. He is in great form, winning his last three and clocking the fastest sprint for five years at Monmore last week.

I also have Newinn Act in the puppy maiden. He trialled well last week and I am expecting him to go very close.

Looking further ahead, we have three trialling at Swindon for the Produce Stakes: Blissful Scolari, Expresso Blue and Fearsome Phantom.

We fancied Blue at Monmore on Thursday and he didn’t let us down. Phantom has a long term future over longer distances but there is only one Produce Stakes so we might as well take our chances.

As for Blissful Scolari, I was thrilled with a 16.04 sprint trial at Perry Barr last week.

Just as pleasing, for different reasons was Droopys Folly’s 16.27. She is the bitch who started favourite for the Pinpoint Maiden Derby in January. She then went lame at Monmore with a shoulder problem. It has been a long painstaking job to get her fit and so far, so good.

We will take it one step at a time with more trials, but she is still a pup and we are looking forward to the future with her.

I have been in touch with Richard Culley in Rathangan and it is all good news. The boys – Newinn Yolo and Swift Hoffman – are back together and both are busy.

Hoffman has three booked in this week, Yolo already has two. Hoffman’s second bitch produced eight pups and Yolo’s first litter are due this week with the prospective mum heavily in whelp.
