Our thanks to greyhoundstats.co.uk for the chance to pay our tribute to some of the oldest and toughest runners currently in training.

All those listed have raced in 2022, any golden oldies who have taken a break during the first three weeks of the year but due to return will feature in the next update.

Surprisingly there are only seven runners aged six or more, headed by Central Park’s Swift Rusty who is rapidly approaching his seventh birthday. Mick Mavrias’ brindle is currently running in D5 but was among the winners just five races ago. Six months oldest than the next oldest pensioner, Rusty contested his first race at the track in September 2016.

Meanwhile Phil Sanderson’s Droopys Greta heads the ‘most appearances’ list and is just three runs away from a double century. She is still contesting A7 and was beaten in a photo last time out.

Interestingly, her litter sister Droopys Cristina, who hasn’t raced since Christmas (hence she is not on the list) at Henlow, is currently on the 163 races mark.

Six years old and more . . .
