The English Derby has been won four times by bitches since 1926. The Select Stakes was won by the only female in the line up for the sixth time in the last 15 years, and none in more style than Domino Storm.

The 6-1 chance led from the traps, was pursued by favorite Droopys Buick (7-4f) all the way to the winning line but won by a couple in 29.34 for the 500m, a time bettered only twice last year, once by Eden The Kid (29.23) and once by Storm’s brother when he finished two places in front of her in the 2015 Select Stakes.

The Betfred Stayers went in thrilling style to Borna Mindy. Backed from 4-1 down to 100-30 during the day, and then to 11-4 on the night, Diane Henry’s black ran an absolute stunner to haul in Muskerry Dalo 14-1 chance Muskerry Dalo by three quarters of a length in 44.77 for the 730m

The night’s other outstanding performance surely belonged to December pup Newinn Shadow (1-1fav). Seamus Cahill’s Peterborough Derby runner-up embraced the 480m Nottingham circuit with a fastest-of-year 28.34 (+20) victory (TR 28.07).
