Greyhound Ambassadors Response

Re: GBGB’s Crackdown on Euthanasia Initiative

The Greyhound Ambassadors wholeheartedly welcome the latest GBGB initiative to crackdown on dogs being put to sleep unnecessarily, euthanasia of a healthy greyhound is no longer acceptable within our industry. This is something we fully endorse and is a crucial step to ensuring our greyhounds have a long and happy retirement.

We believe the GBGB stance, in tackling anyone in our sport who isn’t committed to their dogs 100% is the right way to go in order to return confidence back to our industry and thus proving that we put the welfare of our greyhounds above everything else.

This is fundamental in underpinning the Greyhound Commitment – which is something each and every one of the ambassadors supports – and is a building block to strengthen both our welfare objectives and our sport going forward.

The vast majority of people within our sport love and care for their greyhounds into retirement to ensure they have the best life at the end of their racing career. The small minority who do not, have no place in our sport and if they cannot, or will not put the needs of their greyhounds first then they need to be eradicated immediately and the Ambassadors wholeheartedly lend their support to the GBGB ensuring this will happen.

It is something the Ambassadors have pushed for, that fellow greyhound loving owners demand and we thank Mark Bird and the GBGB for taking action and putting this in motion.
