Witton Derecho was a super bitch on the track for the training partnership of Jill Sutherst and Glen Lynas.  A winner of 19 of her 45 career races , 7 of which came at open class but the highlight was undoubtedly her win in the BGBF British Bred Northern Plate Final at Newcastle in September 2019.  The plan was hatched to mate Derecho with leading sire Laughil Blake and on the 1st October 2020 an equal litter of 5 dogs and 5 bitches were born.

Glen said at the time “Derecho has been the perfect mother. To think that this is her first litter and in particular having had such a large number of pups you would have been forgiven to think she might struggle a little.  Nothing could be further from the truth; she’s been absolutely perfect with them all and both she and the pups are doing outstanding well.

“We really enjoy the breeding side of things and get no bigger buzz than seeing greyhounds we’ve bred ourselves go on to do well.  The events which have been put in place by the BGBF in recent years have given us something to aim at and we hope this very much continues to be the case in future years.

“British breeding is so important to the sport and the BGBF must be funded well in order to enable them to continue the good work that the team there have been doing”.

Now over a year later and with the pups having reached 15 months old the schooling process is well underway.  Glen said “They’ve been absolutely perfect.  There have been some tough times along the way and a lot of hard work as you expect but they’ve also given us reason to keep going in the sport.  The pups give you such a buzz , never quite knowing how they’ll turn out but I must say the signs are promising.  They’ve all been around our whirly gig system now and are as keen as anything.  Showing good pace and balance.  The whirly gig has been a huge plus and can only help the pups with their bend running once on the track.  It’s early days but from what we’ve seen at home and from one or two early trials at Sunderland I’ve got to be hopeful.  A couple at least look very useful and with a bit of luck we could be in for a good year in 2022”.
