Trainer Jim Daly was lining up some big targets for Touch Tackle after the dog ran out a game winner of the Stones Bitter Queen Mother Memorial at Sheffield on Sunday writes John Forbes.

The dog was the 7-4 favourite to lift the £4,000 first prize, but he looked as though he would lose out when he got caught up in traffic round the final bends but he dug deep and came up with a great finish that gave him a threequarters of a length advantage over Kakantu at the line, clocking 38.83 for the 660 metres.

Daly said: “In all fairness it was a scrappy race. Touch Tackle lost his position early on in running and when he got held up again going through the final bends I didn’t think that he could win.

“However, he came through it all right and we will come back here for the Pin Point Health and Homecare Three Steps To Victory on March 24 and after that we will be looking at The Coral Regency at Hove.”

Charlie Lister enjoyed a treble at the meeting, highlighted by the success of Old Joe Golden in the final of the BresMed Puppy Sprint, the dog taking control on the run to the line and winning by half a length from Slaneyside Diver in 16.20 for the 280 metres.
