Billys Bullet underwent a successful operation this afternoon following his broken hock in the heats of the Coral Regency last night.

Trainer Mark Wallis said: “I haven’t spoken to vet Daniel Doherty but one of his assistants said the operation couldn’t have gone better. I saw a picture of the operation and he has a couple of screws in the leg. We are due to pick him up in the morning.

“It was an absolute sickener because he was the ‘dog of the moment’ and I think there was a really big run in him before the injury.

“I am really sad for the owners, who are devastated by what happened, but at least we have the dog. I would also like to thank all the people who have been in touch today expressing their concern over what happened.

“At this stage I have no idea whether or not he will ever race again. You tend to think negatively but then we had Blonde Snapper return from a broken wrist to win the Derby so you never know.”
