The next generation of younger stud dogs are beginning to infiltrate the top ten places in the open race sires table writes Floyd Amphlett.
Although the top three look set to stay in situ until the end of the year, and Ballymac Vic (as a June 10 whelp) looks set to take from his sire in 2019.
Droopys Cain (Mar ’10) and the similarly aged Droopys Jet (Feb’10) have each moved up a place from the 2017 final positions. Both should continue to rise, particularly Cain as his progeny are arguably suited to a wider variety of distances.
The older Scolari Me Daddy (Sep ’07) is up to seventh place (from 14) though the big risers are just below him. Irish Derby runner-up Tyrur Big Mike (Apr ’08) has risen from joint 44th and English Derby winner Taylors Sky (Mar ’09) is up 22 places to no.9.
Completing the top ten is the exciting young sire Laughil Blake. Although only a March 2012 whelp, the son of Brett Lee has made a tremendous impression as demonstrated by a rise from joint 61st on last year’s chart.
