Glenpadden Weir has opportunity of taking his litter one step closer to an open race full house, when he contests a 500 metre maiden open on Sheffield’s televised undercard on Wednesday.

The Barrie Draper trained black is having only the second race of his career having trialled back following illness.

To date, eight of his littermates have been successful in open class: Glenpadden’s Ace, Lord, Love, Oak, Rock, Sound and Wood, plus Cribb, who was also successful under his previous name of Glenpadden Chief. That only leaves two of the ten-strong litter letting the side down, Weir and litter sister Glenpadden Bell. She has been beaten in her only two opens to date, but winning A1 form at Owlerton suggests the step-up is not beyond her.

The litter, which was bred by Patrick Ryan from Golden in Tipperary, has 31 open wins between them so far.

The only litter in recent years to have included nine open winners were the ‘Westmead’ litter by Larkhill Jo out of Mega delight which featured: Aoifa, Delight, Joe, Joy, Liz, Major, Max, Nicole and Olivia.

They managed 140 opens between them.
