Hopes that Towcester, the venue for the 2017 and 2018 Greyhound Derby, may reopen for horse racing were dashed when the track sold it’s ten remaining fixtures.

Since the track first went into administration and was later sold to Fermor Land LLP, the track’s fixtures have been rescheduled at other venues.

A number of established operators looked at maintaining racing at the Northampton venue but decided it was not viable and the track sold the remaining ten meetings to Arena Racing Company (Arc).

It remains to be seen how this affects attempts to bring greyhound racing, which started in 2014, back to the venue.

Talks have taken place between the owners the Hesketh family and Henlow promoter Kevin Bothby about a possible resumption next year, although whether greyhound racing on it’s own can be feasible remains the be seen.
