I have recorded the Chelsea Glass GTA Trainers Championship meeting but it may get deleted before I watch it.
I was bitterly disappointed at being beaten by Kevin (Hutton) but best of luck to him. Winning the last four race is the stuff of dreams and I get on very well with Kevin at Towcester.
He reminds me of myself in lots of ways. He is very competitive, works hard and is lucky enough to be surrounded by good owners prepared to buy good dogs.
I’ve held the inquest as to what went wrong but I had a feeling after the first race that it wasn’t going to be our night.
The fact that Blue Moment didn’t get on with it with the race at his mercy came as a complete shock to me.
I have had several dogs disqualified at Sittingbourne and I don’t ever take anything there if there is a question mark over them.
That certainly wasn’t the case with Blue Moment who has never shown any indication of hanging around and has won many races by big distances.
He threw one race away, and I felt the same with Cloudbursting who led up in the sprint and couldn’t get around the bends.
We also had Vanrooney go lame. It looks like a ruptured tendon this morning but I will have to get him checked out. At one stage he looked well placed but the big run never came.
To be honest, I still thought we had a good chance going into the last race of the night because I thought Swift Keith would turn into El Pedro coming out of the traps and spoil his run to the bend.
As it turned out, Keith missed his break and Pedro was away and gone.
In hindsight, I might have picked the team differently. I should have left Adageo Bob out of the team and put in Domino Storm who head beaten Blue Moment in a brilliant trial.
I had already picked the team by the time she trialled, but I should have swapped them.
But it is no good whinging. There were some positives. Cloudbursting looks as though he can beat the bend sprinters around as he gets more experienced and on the right track.
I thought Evanta Evita was not disgraced in the bitches race. Billys Bullet was brilliant again and I was thrilled with the run by the puppy Swift Whirlwind.
Going forward, I hope to run Billys Bullet at Sheffield and then go for the Regency. Swift Whirlwind will probably go over some slightly longer distances, either 500 metres or some ‘515s’ at Hove.
Eventually he will go over the distance but he isn’t two until July so we will be patient.
I will discuss Blue Moment’s future with the owner but it is likely that I may take him back to Towcester where he has never put a foot wrong. He wasn’t disqualified so the Derby is still an option.
As for Blonde Nipper and Evanta Evita, I quite fancy a shot at the Arc. Swindon have a few trialstakes coming up and it is a track I like.
No good moping – races to be won.
