Eddie Lesley is ploughing on with plans to open Swaffham as a schooling track despite the imminent opening of Mildenhall, just 33 miles away writes Floyd Amphlett.

Lesley said: “The inside rail is being installed. I commissioned the hare rail and the frame for the starting traps last October but work has not even commenced. But we persevere..slowly. The good news is that works to stadium have continued and improvements are noticeable. As far as a date for trialling,is concerned, I do not know.”

Anyone who has known the former Rye House promoter for any period of time will assume that he has something up his sleeve. He is aware of the re-opening of Mildenhall and the near zero chances of racing ‘as a flap’.

In the meantime, just check out the photos. It might be very old school, but the sight of a beautifully prepared grass racing surface is surely such a wonderful sight!
