The high calibre of young greyhounds at Sheffield’s was demonstrated to great effect on Tuesday night in a puppy open.

It went to the 19 month old Geelo Onesie (Taylor’s Sky-Proper Nora, Aug 14) in 28.57 for 480m . The Carl Perry trained 3-1 (T6) chance got home by just a neck from Norman Melbourne’s unlucky 21 month old Yahoo Pearl (T4), with Elaine Parker’s Boysfromthedales another half a length back in third.

It proved a good night for the ‘Geelos’ with kennelmate ‘Bolt‘, 8-13f)  taking the sprint open and ‘Storm‘ winning another 500m open in 28.96.

Meanwhile over the 480 trip, Diane Henry’s Derby finalist Making Paper (Hondo Black-Quarterland Hope, Nov 12) contested his second race after a long lay-off and won well in 27.83 (fastest of year is 27.64).

Also on the same card, Light Foot Mata extended his Sheffield record to 8/13.
