The action gets under way with Heat 1 of the Romford Puppy Cup and DISTANT TAILOR in 5 looks to have a huge chance but he does find plenty of trouble. He trialled here in 24.24 when beating GLENGAR HUNTER, who runs in 2 here, by just a short head. That clearly brings the latter firmly into the equation too but his draw just outside of BONVILLE EMPEROR looks fraught with danger unless he can hit the lids.

YOU NEVER FORGET in 3 would have preferred the red jacket, and I think that would have suited the inside duo if they moved out a trap as well but if he can trap and stay relatively straight into the corner I think he’s a major player. SCROGGY HATTIE in the stripes has run well in 4 trials over course and distance but hasn’t shown the significant improvement that usually comes with that experience. He traps well and as the sole wide seed should be able to show what he truly might be capable of.

Selections – GLENGAR HUNTER (2), YOU NEVER FORGET (3), DISTANT TAILOR (5), SCROGGY HATTIE (6)

OUR BOY SEAMUS was a big priced winner a couple of weeks ago when breaking 24 seconds but he’s since trialled and run 24.04 to prove that was no fluke. He’s the one they all have to beat.

ANTIGUA BRUISER in 5 found 6 lengths improvement in his two recent trials and his best effort at 24.18 stands him in good stead. MAGICAL ARROW was 2 lengths behind in that trial so has a bit to find.

Selections – ANTIGUA BRUISER (5), OUR BOY SEAMUS (6)

TONY in the red jacket put in an average sectional here in a recent trial after trapping well but did clock 24.22. That finish time shows the ability he holds. Although he’ll need to pace into the bend quicker than in that trial, he’s got a great draw and can only improve.

SCROGGY FELIX in 3 has progressed nicely in recent trials but in a 6 dog race might come unstuck and I suspect he’ll rub up with 2 in the early exchanges. BUBBLY MAGNUM in 4 looks to be drawn quite nicely and his last trial time of 24.05 clearly sets the standard. He traps and runs well enough into the first bend that if he led they won’t pick him up but there a chance 5 might move in a bit on the run up. TUCK UP TOM in 6 has plenty of local race experience and while he’s got a bit to find on the clock he has a nice draw and is capable of better in the early dash than he’s shown the last twice. Those runs came from trap 5 where but his three prior runs all in 6 gave him sectionals to be very competitive here and he’s the youngest runner too.

Selections – GLENVALE TONY (1), BUBBLY MAGNUM (4), TUCK UP TOM (6)

Heat 4 houses lasts weeks puppy open winner TENPIN in the blue jacket who was impressive. He paced well to the bend where he was brave and then drew clear after so with not a lot on the clock in terms of competition he’s a banker and he will win.

Selection – TENPIN (2)

19:18 – 400M

Heat 5 might just be a match up between the inside pair but in those events there is the chance of them clashing. ADAGEO BLUE has loads of race-day experience including winning here whereas LIGHTFOOT RIPLEY has only trialled here once but his introduction of 24.19 means he’s a very smart prospect.

Selections – ADAGEO BLUE (1), LIGHTFOOT RIPLEY (2)

No other place to start other than with BUBBLY BOLLINGER who has been bitterly disappointing since racing outside of trials. He’s clearly a very fast dog when things go his way but he doesn’t show a lot when behind for a quick dog so I have my reservations about him. That said, he’s drawn between two runners who between them have broken a 4 second sectional once (3.99) and the 1 is a bang railer with the 3 a middle to wide. With that said there’s no excuse for the him this time round but BONVILLE FANCY in 5 is a fast starting top grade winner around here so has to be on the slip for cover. Make no mistake though, the two dog should win this by some margin.

Selections – BUBBLY BOLLINGER (2), BONVILLE NANCY (5)

19:56 – 575M

The draw makes SHOOT THE BOLT look an attractive proposition. He shot out the traps last week here (which isn’t always his way) but he clocked a very quick winning time too so any replication of that would take this comfortably. 1,2,3 & 4 all run the rails so it’s hard to see a clear run around the opening bend but if DESPERADO DAN can trap and hold his line for as long as possible then he has a proper chance. The only other runner who might slip the field is ROCKMOUNT OZZY in two but there are faster dogs in here.

Selection – DESPERADO DAN (4), SHOOT THE BOLT (6)

PERRYS CHOICE is the one with the experience but he’s drawn outside a lighting quick starter and if he doesn’t lead he doesn’t win. GUIRI STEVE in 3 is a puppy but his two trials here over the trip were pretty decent although it’s hard to know what to expect of how he’ll get round here in a 6 dog race

BLUE TICK GEORGE has trial times at Harlow and Crayford over 592 and 540m respectively which show how quick her is at this trip but he’s never raced from this far off the rails.

Selections – PERRYS CHOICE (2), GUIRI STEVE (3), BLUE TICK GEORGE (4)
