Berwick On Tweed breeder Dave Wood is putting his Questhouse Kennels on the market having bred his last litter.

He said: “It has been coming for a time now. We lost our last two brood bitches, Jazz Hurricane with cancer and Blue Bee following an accident in the paddock. The last of the pups have been moved on and are en route to Ireland.”

Woods rates Savana Highlands victory on 2008 Derby Final night as the highlight of his owning/breeding career but also  includes Gilbeyhall Josh, Mark My Words, Jazz Apollo and Foulden Special among the best he has produced.

He said: “To be honest I have grown disillusioned with greyhound racing and am not sure I will own a greyhound again. I’ve heard lots said about prize money being an issue, but I am not convinced. Certainly, pro rata to kennel bills, there hasn’t been a major change in the last ten year. In my opinion, the biggest issue is how owners are treated by track managements and racing managers.

“As far as British breeding is concerned, there has been a lot of talk but very little action about incentives for British breeders.”
