Following a meeting held yesterday, the GBGB Board has been considering the best process for the Greyhound Derby in 2022. As part of this, the Board is determined to secure a longer-term home for the prestigious competition.

To this end, tenders will still be sought from tracks to host the 2022 event but wherever appropriate, GBGB is keen to receive businesses cases that establish ambition and plans for continuing to host the Derby beyond 2022.

GBGB Managing Director Mark Bird said:

“Towcester held a fantastic Derby this year and we are grateful to Kevin and the team for hosting it.

“We understand that owners and trainers all want the Derby to have a more permanent home so that they can plan for what is undoubtedly the pinnacle of the racing calendar. GBGB completely supports this position whilst recognising that we must still go through the necessary due diligence to ensure that the Derby goes ahead in the appropriate way in terms of finance, resource and sponsorship.

“We are therefore welcoming tenders to hold the competition in 2022 and beyond. There will be a requirement for a negotiated contract to be in place with whichever track is successful to safeguard and protect all interested parties.”

Process dates:

Expressions of interest from tracks to be received by Friday 6th August 2021.

Detailed bids, including confirmed sponsorship arrangements by Friday 27th August 2021.

Derby Panel to meet and confirm Derby host – week beginning 30th August 2021.
