My thanks to owner Tony Newitt for the following letter which seems to make a great deal of sense.

Hi Floyd,
Firstly just wanted to say how fantastic the App is, great stories and great layout. I enjoy the all columnists and the act that you don’t sit on the fence on important issues and say it how it is.
We have a dog (Ascot Woodie) with Pat, who is entered in the Derby, we know he’s not Yolo or Hoffman, but he’s a nice dog.
As i have an interest, i’ve been looking and reading all of the convoluted ways the GBGB have been trying to run the draw.
It’s not rocket science.
There’s 96 dogs to qualify. This should mean 48 heats with 2 qualifying from each heat. Twelve heats on each night from Wednesday to Saturday.
With 272 dogs registered, this means 32 x 6 Dog races and 16 x 5 dog races.
With each withdrawal from the total of 272, just reduce the number of 6 dog races.
I’ve attached a spreadsheet, which shows this.
I just can’t believe all this 42 or 43 heats with some having 3 qualifying, some 2 etc. This makes it as fair and as equal as possible.
If you draw a 5 dog race, then you’re lucky.
