Saturday night was one that trainer Charlie Lynch will remember for some time to come as his Blakefield Jack broke the 590-metre record at Belle Vue.

The 11-8 favourite – who, prior to coming into form had won just once his first 17 opens broke smartly and carried on in that vein as he set up a eleven and threequarter-length victory over Marys Magic in 35.03, three spots quicker than the previous best set by Vatican Jinky, which had stood for eight years.

There were a couple of other good performances with Tip Joes Hat taking the sprint nicely in 15.30 for the 260 metres and Quick Blaze claiming the standard in 27.68 for the 470 metres.

Mill Mon Amie completed an unusual hat-trick for trainer Paul Gregson at Belle Vue on Friday night.

The bitch, a November 2012 whelp by Kinloch Brae out of Big Rhonda, started her run off a couple of weeks ago when she ran out an A3 winner over 470 and she was successful again when moved up to 670 metres next time out, winning an open on her first attempt at the trip.

She stepped back in distance on Friday to contest an S1 over 590 metres and maintained the sequence as she defeated Lemon Emer by a length and threequarters in a very good 35.53.
