A fabulous effort last weekend from Hove kennelstaff Ian Andrews, Dan Wallis, Ashlee Williams and Maisie Bourne as they negotiated the opening round of the Coral Brighton Belle with supporting opens comprising of trialstakes for the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup.

We’ve had a reshuffle this week but before handing over to Callum, a quick review of last week’s results. So in the order that beauty contests were once given (we doubt any of the tipsters remember them). . .

– the ‘third runner-up’ with three winners  (1-2f, 11-4, 10-11) was Ian Andrews. Ian was the only one of the tipsters to deliver a winning NAP, Whats Up Eva (11-4).

– the ‘second runner-up’ with four winners (4-6, 11-8, 8-11, 13-8) and representing the Hunt Kennel was Maisie Bourne.

– the gallant runner-up – how do you finish runner-up with six winners (2-7, 1-2, 1-3, 7-1, 10-11, 8-11) from 13 selections? – was Dan Wallis.

– But ‘El Supremo’, and no.1 in his own lunchtime & the judge in his own household was Ashlee Williams with SEVEN winners !!!  (2-7, 4-6, 11-8, 1-3, 10-11, 8-1, 13-8). You did spot the 8-1 !!!

So now over to Callum. . .

This week we will be making it slightly more difficult with an element of risk to our tipsters selections. By doing so we’ve issued them an imaginary £100 to split in whatever they feel will earn them the most returns.

Unfortunately we’ve said goodbye to our lowest winning tipster Ian Andrews and have gained kennelhand Charlie Rees for the semi final along with (at the Editors insistance!) myself. The lowest returning tipster will drop away and a final will be on the cards for Saturday the 29th.

Charlie: Ballymac John – I think he showed massive promise last time at Towcester, his trial at hove was good. He should be able to lead 1 and 3 and be confident if leading that he wont be seen again. A very promising future ahead!

Dan: Ballymac John – trialled very well last week and should be really suited to Hove.

Dan: Maree Champion – Maree Champion looks a very exciting pup and ran very well last week also has a good draw in 1.

Ashlee: Maree Champion – What can I say about this superstar pup. I witnessed him run at hove the other week and he absolutely proved what a powerful runner he is. He’s won all three of his races by a combined total of nearly 18 lengths.

Callum: Droopys Clue – Very impressive when leading but not for long in his second start to then stay on and win, even if Maree Champion beats Droopys Clue for early I think he is the more stronger and capable pup.

Dan: Jacktavern Magic – he trialled in very well last week and will take to hove well suiting his running style.

Callum: Whitings New Era – Thought was very close to Azurra last time out and was staying on very well too. Being inside again may mean a smarter exit out of the 2nd bend.

Charlie: Whats Up Eva – She loves Hove, and may be scope for value with Havana Bale Out and No Rush in the race, if trapping like she can should give a good run for money.

Charlie: Newinn Touch – will have plenty of room to show her speed on the long run up.

Dan: Newinn Touch – found loads of trouble last week and did well to qualify from a hard heat, this is a slightly easier race and she has a good draw outside 4 railers.

Callum: Droopys Request – my absolute dead certain for the night, an impressive run last week to be within ½ a length of Fabulous Azurra, she shall definitely lead 1,3, and 4 up and by that point its lights out.

Callum: Molly Maid – was not disgraced last week when she went close with Impact George in three for this heat. My reckoning will be she will lead after the final bend, as George straightens up.

Charlie: Forest Icon – Very well drawn in six and 515m will suit massively.

Ashlee: Make Noise – He returns to the track following a lengthy absence since December. He definitely impressed in his last 500 trial at Hove clocking 29.27 and 3:58 sectional. He returns with a strong chance.

Dan: Gougane Jet – He has a much better drawn in four this week, and should go better than last.

Ashlee: Gonzales – being in 1 will only help his cause, its where he likes to be and hopefully will kick on to win this heat.

Callum: Old Fort Beetee – not one of the biggest fancies but was still impressed last time this black dog of David Mullins was last on show at Hove being in five. Now this heat in T6 he was very smart about leaving the boxes when not being fortunate with a clear run, the draw alone makes it a bigger opportunity in a very classy field.

Ashlee: Ninja Kerry – He hasn’t let me down the past 2 weeks and has all attributes to take this 515 dogs open, coming from behind the field or by leading. He is sold and very reliable around Hove.

Callum: Bombay The Best – with an amazing win vs the highly spoken about Hopes rhino only a week ago  a difficult 515 dogs open sees Bombay nestled in between the exciting Nathan Hunt Racing Club runner and the former Olympic champion who’s on for a four timer a very tough way to secure the EW treble.
