Castell Henry and Westway Hawk dominated the first round of the 70th British Bred Produce Stakes at Swindon on Saturday.

As always in this event, there was a wide disparity between the fastest and slowest heat winners and quickest on the night was the Welsh born Ladbrokes Puppy Derby winner Castell Henry (Kinloch Brae-Tyrur Alice, Apr 14).
The Phil Simmonds trained runner was surprisingly opposed in the betting by the unraced King Kid (evens) but made every post a winner when trapping clear (2.37 sect) from the white trap and beating Lowgate Belatrix by 10 in 28.48.
Westway Hawk (Coolavanny Bert-Lottes Girl, Jul 14) had been tremendously impressive in trials and despite only contesting his third race, Angie Kibble’s coloured dog won like a 1-3f should. Marginally led up by Meadow (T3) the fastest hound so far this year of Yarmouth’s 659m – Hawk soon took command and beat Lowgate Malfoy by nine and some in 28.49.
The third of the supposed ‘big three’ in the event, Blissful Scolari (Droopy Scolari-Little Flame, Jun 14) dropped himself into difficulty with an average break in heat nine, but then extricated himself brilliantly at the first bend. Pat Rosney’s 2-7f eventually won by eight from Drink Up Bolt in 28.76.
Scolari’s time was equalled in the next heat by the 28.13 Sheffield winner Bansha Rooskey (Taylors Sky-Bansha Mo, Apr 14). David Acott’s 3-1 chancewent box to beam (2.39 sect) when beating Sawpit Successor in just under three lengths.
