Night of Stars 600 winner Ballyhooley Henry was the star of the Gain Dog Food 600 semi-finals at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.
Tom O’Neill’s runner, the 5-4 favourite, was soon in front in the opening eliminator and had his rivals at full stretch by halfway.
He eventually went on to score by six and a half lengths in 32.38sec.
There was a real turn up in the other semi-final when Sugarbear Barber caused a shock.
Gerry Barber’s runner was soon in front and was helped when most of the field bunched up around the first turn.
Graham Holland’s Milldean Cougar tried to close on the run for home but was beaten a head in 32.83sec. Holland had another finalist when his Notorious Ben ran on for third.
John Boyle’s big money purchase Boylesports Duke was again very disappointing in fourth.
Draw for next Saturday’s final:
1 Sugarbear Barber
2 Ballyhooley Henry
3 Tradition
4 Milldean Cougar
5 Hovex Blaze
6 Notorious Ben
