Whilst Mildenhall’s one-race-meeting-a-week model seems to lessens the impact of the regional runner deficit, there is no shortage of pups appearing at the weekly Friday night trial session writes Mark Newberry.
Recent weeks trial sessions have been fully booked with some 15 – 16 trials taking place plus schooling. Robert Pendall and the Moors team have been putting pups their Coolavanny Bert/Craan Fleece youngsters through there paces.
Debbie Manning also has some Bert youngsters beginning their education while Julie Pearson has been kept busy qualifying a bunch of Head Bound pups. They are a good looking bunch too with many in the mid 30-40kg range. If they can run as well as they look, this batch will certainly go a long way.
On the racing front Anne Kirby has got her hands on a very useful sort in Vicarage Champ. Known as Kippers Champ in Ireland, this fella has improved enormously from his 29.33 at Waterford to land two from three at the Hall with the last two being 23.33s and 23.13s wins in top grade.
He now heads off the minor open race scene as his last win probably leaves him upgradeable. Despite being a son of Droopys Scolari he has yet to come out of the boxes and is doing it the hard way. But if this fella comes out he will certainly be hard to pass and looks odds on to be open class.
Another in good form and as yet the only one to have beaten the Vicarage dog is the David Prentice trained Rhincrew Flash. This capable early paced sort who is syndicate owned by The Brighty’s (Senior & Junior), Mr Summerskill and their agent Eric Cantillion.
He has proved to be the one to follow since his arrival having landed four from seven in graded company (all A5) plus squeezing in a maiden open at Henlow in between. After last week’s even money romp the grader may have to consider an upgrade.
February dog of the month was won by Rhincrew Flash with the bitch’s award going to the Anne Kirby owned and trained Vicarage Beauty.
