Local trainer Elaine Parker’s youngsters dominated the opening round of the Sheffield Puppy competition on Tuesday night.

Coolavanny Gravy (Droopys Scolari -Coolavanny Angie, Jul 13) gave her a good start when the  justified favouritism with a beat Bodell Spark in 29.10 for the 500 metres. Kennelmate Slaneyside Toby (Godsend-Camp Vejo, Sep 13) produced a powerful run up the back straight to beat My Little Dream by four lengths in 29.02.

Mrs. Parker’s promising Coolavanny Rebel, a litter brother to Coolavanny Gravy who has recently been syndicated, started favourite for the second heat – his first outing in open company – but he failed to advance his reputation. He got caught up in early crowding and finished fourth, but his time will come.

Final: 1 Slaneyside Toby (R), 2 Sky Dancer (r) 3 Coolavanny Gravy (r) 4 Ballydoyle Mary (r) 5 Bodell Spark (r) 6 My Little Dream (m)
