Doncaster racing manager Mick Smith remains confident that the track can fulfil their BAGS fixtures despite losing several trainers.

Smith said: “The most significant in terms of number is Jane Houfton whose last runners list had 15 dogs on it. There was a parting of the ways, though certainly, and contrary to some rumours, she was not sacked.

“I’ve heard stories that Malcolm Windrass has left, but that’s not true. Danny Gomersall has gone, but he only had three dogs available. There are also a handful of other trainers who typically had between none and two runners each.

“Offset against that, we recently had Peter Moore and Pauline Spragg arrive from Perry Barr who currently have between seven and eight runners between them.

“Yes, we could do with another couple of trainers, and if there are any out there, we would be pleased to hear from them, but we can cope with things as they are.”
