Eight runners dipped below Drive On Tipp’s Towcester 500 metre track record during the first ten heats of the Star Sports English Greyhound Derby on Thursday.

The star of the night was undoubtedly Clares Rocket who finally broke his UK famine with a 28.77 run. He was immediately cut to 7-1 with the sponsors.

The biggest shock of the night was Tyrur Shay’s defeat by Shaneboy Freddie whose 5.13 sectional was shared by the impressive Danzey Exception and Razldazl Tierna.
