All eyes were on the Derby and although the weather drenched the form book on Saturday, you really can’t look beyond Glengar Bale for the outstanding performance of the round.

It seems ages ago, but it is only six days since Roxholme Kristof kept a fantastic clean sweep in the GAIN Three Steps before his elimination in the Derby. How good was the Sheffield run? It equalled Borna Mindy’s exceptional run four years ago. Nothing has gone quicker.

The weather played havoc at Central Park, but took nothing off the performance of Tenpin in the Brinkleys Poet At Stud Young Guns Final. Sticking with David Mullins kennel and the Romford nomination for Piemans Noelle after her career best 35.21 for 575.

Saturday was a big night at Crayford and the stand out run went to Salacres Slippy in the Kent St.Leger. (Don’t underestimate the run put in by Smallmead though, after losing at least five lengths in running in the Gold Collar heats).

Queen Lilly is looking to be emulate sister Queen Jessiej and brother King Drake by being a competition winner and made a fine start in the BGBF Scurry first round at Harlow. On a similar theme Glenvale Amy has been in the shadow of litter brother Glenvale Gav, whose 27.37 is one of the performances of the year at Kinsley. But Amy recently weighed in herself with a 27.56 run.

Returning to the subject of British breds and Killee Phantom clocked the best 480 at Newcastle in the Maiden Standard heats last week. At neighbouring Sunderland, Daft Agent followed up an A2 win with the quickest A1 over 450m while Tassagh Biddy rattled off consecutive A1s at Pelaw.

The clock has been of minimal help in the last few days. A prime example is Keady Rocket at Doncaster whose 29.31 was over 450 (!!!) in a D1, on going rated -120. Monmore stage a variety of A1s and variable going makes it virtually impossible to separate them. On this occasion we will go with British bred Union Secret.

At Hove, Ice On Fire’s litter brother Ravens Burger has found Chipping Away a bit of a handful in recent weeks, but with him absent from the A1, Seamus Cahill’s dog did the biz in 29.30 (-10).

Pery Barr’s Dungarvan Hobo previously made the POW chart as a sprinter and is now back over four bends following a 28.72 (-10) win in A1. Yarmouth’s Swift Acquit started off in A6 and was the only runner to break 28.00 when winning her first A1.

Swindon’s Ashway Ruby has been in sparkling form and completed a four-timer on Sunday when winning an A1 in 28.64 (-10). On the same day, Popsworld was a ten length winner in A2 at Towcester

Some decisions just stand out. When a five year old clocks easily the fastest time of the week over the most used distance. . . . That would be Layton Boy at Henlow.
