The first two British bred litters of 2016 were registered in January and they suggest an on-going and welcome trend writes Floyd Amphlett.
At this stage, the three pups by Take The Crown out of Golden Danielle are believed to be the first 2016 whelps – though don’t be surprised if we end up with a couple from New Year’s day. Incidentally, Crown’s open race winning cousin Newinn Echo (same sire, dams were half sisters) also produced pups by the highly rated sire Scolari Me Daddy.
There are plenty of well known names among the new mums including Echo’s former kennelmate Thurlesbeg Bound, who produced a big litter of open class ‘Who Needs’ pups to Droopys Scolari and now has some Droopys Odells.

SKATE ON
Two of Liz McNair’s speed queens, Wee Tiger Tots and Oaks runner-up Skate On have seven pups apiece, while the prolific Hove winner Spinkys Nod has a litter by one of my favourite sires, Vans Escalade,
Northern ‘Angel’, Brunswick Jenny has a bunch by Michael Dunne’s new America import, Superior Product.
There is insufficient space to record the achievements of some of the other worthy mums on the list. In my opinion, although the number of litters is not high, I do not believe British breeders have ever bred with an overall higher calibre of potential brood.
