The youngest winner on the card produced the performance of the night at SHEFFIELD on Tuesday.

News At Six (Vans Escalade-Come Home Molly, Oct 15) landed his third consecutive Owlerton sprint when taking the £500 decider of a 280m competition. On a rain drench track, Gavin Holman’s black pup held off favourite Coney McKenna in 16.37 on going rated .40 slow.

The meeting also featured three heats of a 480m sweep where another pup, Hittheroadjack (Kinloch Brae-Best Special, Sep 15) went quickest. Elaine Parker’s runner made it three wins and a second from his last four races with a 28.81 (-80) victory. The other qualifiers went to Geelo Mickey (28.89) and Fire Height Bob (29.42).

You want competitive – you’ve got competitive. The first round of the TOWCESTER Greyhound Welfare Graded Derby produced the sort of results that would have any grader drooling.

All eight winners were timed between 28.89 and 29.20. Every qualifier finished within four lengths of the winner with a time spread of all 48 runners between 28.89 and 29.31. The joint fastest winners were Graham Holford’s Shreyas Skyfall and Paul Philpott’s Getcallmyreg.
