Henlow have pushed back the deadline to enter for Sunday’s open races until noon on Thursday.

Racing manager Paul Mellor said: “We have quite a few entries but I would like to duplicate a couple of the opens and thought we would give it the extra day. Ideally, I would probably stage seven over a variety of distances.”

The Henlow racing strength is reasonably buoyant and should soon see the arrival of Simon Cull. Eric Cantillon has also been qualifying pups.

Mellor said: “Eric is going to split his kennel between here and Towcester and he has some 2014 whelps among those trialling in. So far this year, we have only had one 2014 pup on the card which is just about unheard of halfway through the year. We have always relied on locally bred litters but haven’t had any complete litters qualifying for months.”

The Henlow RM will be playing particular attention to the youngster Blackrose Paul.

He said: “So far he looks to be better than the litter brother which has come as something of a surprise. Kevin (Boothby promoter) recently renamed one of his runners Savana Paul though to put it politely, he is hardly the star of the litter. I asked Kevin why had called the backward one after me and he replied “He wasn’t backward until we renamed him.”
